Preparing future leaders to manage human rights challenges in business requires new teaching tools. We translate our research insights from our workstreams into teaching tools. The case teaching method is well-established in business school teaching and we invite companies to work with us to develop teaching case studies. In these case studies we highlight how companies are working towards aligning profits and principles.

The microsimulation of “Mercurtrade Cobalt” was created in the context of the Global Business School Network (GBSN) faculty challenge 2020. It is a fictitious case scenario that is based on insights from our research on responsible cobalt sourcing in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The case focuses on Decathlon, Europe’s biggest outdoor and sports retailer. It examines how the company is adjusting its business model to align growth and profits with positive social impact and respect for human rights.
